March 8-12

 In Grade 3 we have been very focused on our Literacy Centres where we work on developing into skilled readers. With a small group, the students are focusing on targeted skills such as decoding, phonological awareness, and comprehension reading text. We also practice a letter and sound recognition game to focus on students phonemic awareness in our small groups and at the end of each day with the whole class. These are some photos of a couple of our groups working with a teacher: 



 


We were very lucky this week to have a virtual field trip titled The Carnival of the Animals. Our students watched a performance and then interacted during a Question and Answer session. We experienced poetry telling a story about animals and fossils with beautiful piano music to go along with each part. We also were joined by a Palaeontologist student from the University of Calgary to talk about fossils, dinosaurs, and some of the animals she is focusing her studies on. The students asked thoughtful questions and were very inspired by the actor, musician, and palaeontologist.

 Hi Families,  We had a very busy week in Grade 3, writing SLAs and preparing for our first virtual assembly! SLAs - We did a writing assessment, an online Literacy, and an online Math portion.  - Students all tried their best and worked very hard during the assessments! Assembly - The Grade 3s hosted our first every virtual Keeler Circle of Courage Assembly.  - We are so proud of all of the students for their contributions planning, practicing roles, and recording videos and sound.  - Our Assembly this week focused on the Belonging pillar, please ask your child how they show belonging at school, how they know they belong, and how they can demonstrate it at home.  - I have attached our version of "The Kids Book about Belonging" by Kevin Carroll.  Parent Teacher Conferences - Please sign up for a conference on October 29 from 1-8pm. The times are 15 mins and will be over the phone.

November 9-13

This week we participated in a virtual Remembrance Day assembly. The Grade 3 students worked hard to represent illustrations for the book 'A Poppy is to Remember' by Heather Patterson. The students narrated the book and we put it together to share with Keeler School. Our students were very thoughtful and respectful in the discussions about Remembrance Day.

February 1-5

 Grade 3s have started our building things unit in Science. We started our unit with a Three Little Pigs Challenge. After listening to the story of the Three Little Pigs, students were given the challenge: build the best Three Little Pig House. Working with a partner, students were given materials to work with. The Big Bad Wolf then came to visit the classroom to see if he could blow down the houses!
